Understanding Your United Healthcare Rehab Coverage Options
Having United Healthcare rehab coverage can bring you one step closer to getting professional help for an addiction to alcohol or another drug. But before you actually access that help, you need to be sure you understand the details of your policy. For example:
- What programs or levels of care does your policy cover?
- What therapies and support services will United Healthcare pay for (and do certain services fall outside the parameters of your plan)?
- What type of information do and your treatment provider need to send to United Healthcare to ensure that your treatment is covered?
For help with these and other questions about your policy, the resources listed in the previous section are good places to start.
What Types of Rehab Programs Do United Healthcare Plans Cover?
United Healthcare rehab coverage may include the following types of programs:
- Detoxification: This short-term program, which is commonly referred to simply as detox, features 24/7 support from professionals who can help you get through withdrawal safely and with minimal discomfort. Typical length of stay in a detox program is about 5—10 days.
- Residential treatment: Common features of a residential addiction treatment program include customized daily schedules, multiple types of therapy, breaks for meals and snacks, and either private or semi-private patient rooms. Typical length of stay is 28 days, though a patient’s actual stay may be longer or shorter.
- Partial hospitalization program (PHP): If you receive addiction treatment through the partial hospitalization program at Design Recovery, you will attend sessions Monday—Friday, 9 a.m.—4:30 p.m. each day. A typical day at this level usually includes several types of therapy, a lunch break, and either surf therapy, a gym session, or another holistic activity (such as art therapy or yoga). Patients usually remain in our PHP for 60—90 days.
- Intensive outpatient program (IOP): Our intensive outpatient program gives patients the option of attending treatment either three or five days a week. Each treatment day is 9 a.m.—noon, which can be ideal if you need to work or attend school while you’re getting treatment. Typical length of stay at this level also ranges from 60—90 days.
Please note that our center in Jacksonville only offers treatment at the PHP and IOP levels. If we determine that you may be better served by starting your treatment in detox or a residential program, we can refer you to a trusted provider in the area.
How Long Does United Healthcare Cover Rehab in Jacksonville?
Let’s be completely honest here: In an ideal world, decisions about how long a patient should remain in treatment would be based solely on their progress and needs. Unfortunately, we don’t yet live in an ideal world.
The willingness of your insurance provider to continue paying for treatment can have a significant influence on whether you remain in a program or return home. So it is completely understandable to want to know how long your United Healthcare rehab coverage will fund your care.
However, as with so many other aspects of health insurance, this can depend on several factors, including a review of your progress while you’re in treatment.
When you choose Design Recovery, we will do our best to explain how the process works, and we’ll do all we can to support you in your efforts to get the help you need.
How Much Will I Have To Pay For Rehab With United Healthcare Coverage?
Once you’ve checked your United Healthcare rehab coverage, identified which types of programs and services are covered, and explored how long you can stay in treatment, you’re left with two important questions:
- How much of your addiction treatment bill will United Healthcare cover?
- How much will you be responsible for paying out of pocket?
The answers to these questions can be influenced by several factors, such as which program you’re enrolled in, which types of services you will be receiving, and if you’ve previously been in an addiction treatment program this year.
We understand the importance of knowing ahead of time how much your United Healthcare rehab coverage will pay for, and we’re committed to providing you as much clarity as we can in this area.
Prior to the beginning of your treatment at Design Recovery, we’ll give you a detailed estimate of what United Healthcare should cover and how much (if any) you may be responsible for paying out of pocket.
